Plantar Fasciitis

Plantar fasciitis is a painful inflammatory process of the plantar fascia. The plantar fascia is the connective tissue on the sole of the foot. Most people with plantar fasciitis have pain when they take their first steps out of bed, sitting for a long period of time, climbing the stairs and/or after intense activates. This is due to the tightening of the fascia ligament. Pain can occur under or on the side of the heel around the insertion of the ligament.

What causes Plantar Fasciitis?

The most common cause of plantar fasciitis is extreme tightness of the calf muscles, which lead to prolonged and/or high velocity pronation of the foot. Runners are particularly at risk because of the biomechanics of the pronation foot causes additional stretching of the plantar fascia. Walking excessively in footwear that does not provide adequate arch support can contribute to plantar fasciitis. Individuals that are overweight are more at risk of developing this condition due to excess weight impact on foot.

How do we treat Plantar Fasciitis at CNS Rehab?

At CNS, we possess an Extracorporeal Shock Wave Therapy, which according to evidence-based research is extremely successful in treating planetary fasciitis. It is a non-invasive procedure in which therapeutic pressure waves are directed at the area of pain. The ESWT is restoring patients with chronic heel pain syndrome or plantar fasciitis to normal; active lifestyles are restored within three treatments to feel the difference.
